MLTC is seeking a keen, dedicated individual to fill the full time, permanent position of Accounting Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing data entry and related duties in disbursing accounts payable to individuals, suppliers, MLTC First Nations, and/or other entities. This includes reviewing the payment request, coding, and filing the documents. With regards to CFS, duties include the use of CFS case management and specialized payment programs. The Accounting Officer must be/become very familiar with the funding agreements and must work very closely with the Budget Analyst to ensure that expenses have been coded properly and complete re-allocation of costs if necessary. Duties will also include the preparation of year end audit information. The Accounting Officer must be able to provide accurate, timely and concise work and must pay attention to detail, be approachable and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Position Duties: 

Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the position is responsible for:

  • Accounts payable processing (code and input invoices)
  • Accounts receivable processing
  • Payroll processing
  • Issue payments for Caregivers and/or Children in Care; invoices & payments to MSS
  • Employee & FN Representatives Per Diems, Travel Claims & Reimbursements
  • Other general accounting and office duties as assigned.




  • Appropriate combination of education and experience, with approx. 2 years’ experience with a computerized accounting system (preferably Sage 300 ERP), may be considered


  • Education in Accounting and/or Office procedures, or some post-secondary education
  • 2+ years relevant experience in Accounting and with a computerized accounting system
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, internal controls


  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook and Excel), keyboarding speed and accuracy;
  • Knowledge of AIS System considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Service Canada and Ministry of Social Services policies for CFS considered an asset.
  • Able to use an adding machine, and complete detailed calculations;
  • Able to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a busy office;
  • Ability to work effectively with Accounting staff and Program staff in a team environment;
  • Ability to speak Cree and/or Dene is considered an asset;
  • An understanding, knowledge and appreciation of First Nations history, culture, and aspirations.
