The MLTC Health & Social Development Department is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the full-time position Communicable Disease Specialist. The Communicable Disease Specialist (CD Specialist) reports to the Nursing Program Director and works in close collaboration with the MLTC Nursing Team, NITHA Team, SHA, and the MLFN Nurses.

The CD Specialist provides guidance and advice as per national and international standards, for the monitoring, prevention, treatment and control of communicable diseases specific to STTBIs. The CD Specialist is a senior nursing practitioner who provides leadership for the strategic planning, development and delivery of communicable disease programs within MLTC.

The CD Specialist is responsible for monitoring communicable diseases and evaluating the performance of health protection and disease control programs and providers. In addition, the CD specialist provides an analysis of disease trends and outbreaks over time, identify members of the population who are most at risk and assist in the development and maintenance of prevention, treatment and control programs.




  • A Bachelor of Nursing with minimum of five (5) years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated competency in public health, primary care or primary health care, population-level health promotion or community development.
  • Able to apply principles of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention focusing on population health and wellness including and not limited to health promotion, prevention of diseases, harm reduction, community development in public health, northern health and infection prevention and control measures.
  • Ability to obtain College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) registration prior to employment.


  • A Master’s Degree in Public Health or Epidemiology is an asset.
  • Ability to speak/understand Cree/Dene is considered a valuable asset.
