The Meadow Lake Tribal Council’s Department of Education is seeking a highly-motivated dedicated individuals to fill the position of Early Learning Interventionist (ELI).  This position is a Maternity Leave backfill. This school-year term contract position is located at the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation School.

The Early Learning Interventionist is a paraprofessional who will work in collaboration with parents/caregivers and teachers (Nursery/Kindergarten/Grade 1 – with a focus on Kindergarten) to develop children’s oral language and learning readiness skills as indicated in EYE results. The ELI’s responsibilities will extend beyond regular school hours to allow for:  collaboration with teachers to meet student needs; time to document student progress and complete other paperwork; and time to study professional development materials provided by MLTC.  This position also includes assisting teachers in planning and hosting literacy events for parents and caregivers.

Ongoing training and support will be provided for this position by the MLTC Early Learning Team. The ELI will collaborate with teachers and EAs and report to the school-based administrator. The performance evaluation for the ELI will be the responsibility of MLTC Education in consultation with the school-based administrators.


  • The Early Learning Interventionist will work directly in the classrooms, in collaboration with Parents, and Teachers (Nursery/Kindergarten/Grade 1) to develop children’s oral language and learning readiness skills.
  • This position will also include planning and hosting literacy events for parents and caregivers.
  • The ELI will work directly with parents through home visits that often occur beyond regular school hours.
  • The ELI will have a key role in encouraging parent participation through home visits and literacy-focused parents and caregiver events.
  • Ongoing training and support will be provided for this position by the MLTC Early Learning Team.


  • Early Childhood Certificate and/or equivalent education / relevant work experience is an asset.
  • Familiar with early childhood development / education: Saskatchewan’s Essential Learning Experiences, Kindergarten Curriculum, Early Years Evaluation, Early Childhood Development.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact effectively with young children
  • Strong communication skills to interact with children, parents/caregivers and educators.
  • Willingness to engage and attend ongoing training provided by MLTC (both on site and in Meadow Lake).
  • Excellent communication skills (Verbal/Written); interpersonal skills; decision making skills; professional judgment skills; and organizational/time-management skills.
  • Must be willing and able to work with technology (such as an iPad).
  • Demonstrated knowledge in computer software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office –Word, Excel).
  • Ability to document and keep thorough notes and records.
  • Will be knowledgeable and sensitive to First Nations’ culture and beliefs; issues and barriers.
  • Knowledge of local language(s), family environments, and personal acquaintances with parents and caregivers, will be an asset to this role.
  • A member of the local community.
