MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10.   The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy.  As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

MLTC Health & Social Development Department is a motivated individual to fill the full-time, permanent position of an Environmental Public Health Officer (EPHO).

 

The EPHO develops, implements and maintains a comprehensive program designed to monitor and report on environmental health conditions amongst member First Nations.

 

POSITIONS DUTIES (include but not limited to):

  • Working in a team setting, the EPHO will provide public health inspection and surveillance services to the communities within Meadow Lake Tribal Council and make appropriate recommendations to Chief and Council on matters related to; drinking water supplies, housing, food safety, communicable disease, solid and liquid waste disposal.
  • Provide guidance and support to MLTC management and communities on matters related to environmental contaminants, emergency preparedness and other compliance issues.
  • Provide training and support to Water Quality Technicians.
  • Conduct Food Safety training.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Minimum:

  • Certificate with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors as a Public Health Inspector/Environmental Health Officer.

 

Preferred:

  • Completion of a Post Secondary Diploma/Degree in Environmental Health or other relevant program.
  • Experience working with First Nations and familiarity with First Nations culture, history and governance is considered an asset.

Other:

  • Proficient with computers, i.e., Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to travel and must possess a valid driver’s license. Extensive traveling involved.
  • Work with minimal supervision, independently and prioritize multiple demands
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated organizational skills, with an emphasis on collaborative problem solving; able to work independently or in a team environment.
