Finance Technician

Employment Type: Full Time – 18-month term

The Accounting Technician works within a team environment with minimal supervision and will exercise initiative, prioritize tasks, and independently carry out work to completion. Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Technician receives broad exposure to all aspects of accounts payable and payroll processing in a workplace with 150+ employees in diverse sectors.

 

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Process employee travel claims for payment.
  • Process First Nation representatives per diem claims (meeting attendance)
  • Accounts Payable processing
    • -review supplier invoices, match to purchase orders
    • -code and input invoices
    • -prepare and post cheques
    • -print/post applicable general ledger batches
    • -reconcile supplier statements and do follow-up with suppliers
    • -maintain filing of paid invoices
  • Process payroll
  • Post G/L transactions, complete adjusting entries, and account reconciliations
  • Assist with workload as needed within all program entities, and across a variety of accounting functions.
  • Other general accounting/office duties as assigned.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all financial files.

Education and Experience

  • Two (2) years relevant experience with a computerized accounting system
  • Preference given to Education or Training in Accounting and/or Office Procedures
  • Computer Skills – Microsoft Office (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, etc.)
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with accounting staff, program managers, and the First Nation
  • An understanding and knowledge of First Nations culture and history
  • Must be self-directed, task and goal orientated.
  • Must be honest and trustworthy.
  • Must be respectful.
  • Must possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Must demonstrate sound work ethics.
  • Must have stress management skills.
  • Must have time management skills.
  • Must be flexible enough to manage constant interruptions.
