Kopahawakenum Community School is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the position of Head-start/Nursery Teacher for the 2024-25 school year.  The school is located on the Flying Dust First Nation on the northeast side of the City of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. The Kopahawakenum Community School offers a complete, modern educational program from Kindergarten to Grade 8.  The school features a gym with change rooms, a multi-purpose room, a library, a home economics room, PAA room, science and computer labs, and several resource areas.

The beautifully designed school hosts a pre-kindergarten program to grade 8.  The school has created a welcoming environment for learning and provides ample opportunities for the students.  Kopahawakenum Community School promotes a strong balanced literacy program while incorporating language and culture into their school identity.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Education degree or higher from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Eligible for a Saskatchewan Professional “A” or Provisional Professional “A” teaching certificate preferred
  • Have a working knowledge of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples and to integrate their culture, values and history into the curriculum Provisional License Preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years as a certified ECE
  • Must lead a healthy lifestyle
  • strong organization and planning and scheduling skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel
  • Must pass a RCMP Criminal Record Check
  • Must have own transportation

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Prepare students for Kindergarten.
  • Help them develop positive self-esteem.
  • Develop social skills, as well as communication skills for solving problems peaceably
  • Develop the ability to work and cooperate in small and large groups.  Understand and respect the property of others
  • Increase their capacity to think, reason, question, and experiment
  • Develop language and early literacy skills
  • Build early writing skills.  This includes letter recognition, letter-sound matching, ideas of printing
  • Build oral and listening skills
  • Develop familiarity with numbers and mathematical reasoning skills
  • Develop awareness and appreciation of art, music, poems and books. Experience the artistic process
  • Increase participation in play, singing, creative experiences, rhythmic activities and dramatic play
  • Develop large and small muscle coordination, and activities designed to foster good habits of health and safety.  This includes activities geared toward building strong muscles and coordination
  • Integrate special needs children in a positive and respectful manner
  • Provide weekly plans, monthly schedules, year plans and lesson plans of activities planned.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, students, staff, and stakeholders.
