The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is seeking a Human Resources Technician to join the Office of Education. The Human Resources Technician reports to Human Resources Manager (Education department) and supports daily HR operations of the Education department in collaboration with MLTC’s HR department. The HR Technician works effectively as part of MLTC Education Department and in collaboration with the 9 Meadow Lake First Nations. This position is expected to work effectively with the MLFN’s HR departments in order to meet the HR needs of MLTC Education and the MLFN schools.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Without restricting the generality of the general description above, the HR Technician shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned including but not restricted to the following:

  • Assist in design, development and implementation of people programs in Education department.
  • Recruitment and staffing initiatives:
    • Posting employment ads, coordinating interviews and job postings, developing interview questions, performing reference checks, letter of offers, new employee orientation, enrolment to group benefits, entry and management on SAGE HRMS.
  • Conduct employee on-boarding when applicable.
  • Assist on employee payroll and benefits administration.
  • Assist and advise employees with policies and procedures.
  • Respond to employee inquiries, identifying needs and escalating issues when needed.
  • Maintain employee records and files (manual and electronically).
  • Maintain SAGE HRMS and ensure employee data is updated in a timely manner.
  • Compile, analyze and report on data with using HR metrics.
  • Support in creating an organizational climate conducive to constructive employee & labour relations, promoting a productive culture in the organization that values diversity, trust and respect for individuals and their contributions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Human Resources Manager and Senior Administration team.

 

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Post-secondary education in the field of Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field from a recognized institute, and/or equivalent combinations of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years work experience in human resources generalist / HR administration within a fast-paced office environment.
  • Must be proficient and well-experienced in computer applications: Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Outlook. Working knowledge on SAGE HRMS or other HR application and databases would be an asset.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills; demonstrated group presentation skills.
  • Able to observe & maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Able to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and pay attention to details in all areas while working under pressure to meet deadlines or in responding to changing priorities.
  • Able to provide excellent and respectful and professional client/employee service.
  • Able to take initiative, self-starter, proactive, result-driven and work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple demands and effectively manage time.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally.
  • Willing to travel to and work in First Nation Communities.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s licence.
  • Knowledge & experience with First Nations culture, traditions and beliefs and able to speak and understand Cree and/or Dene is a definite asset.

  • The Human Resources Technician is expected to respect the confidential nature of the position. Breaching confidentiality is a serious violation of acceptable conduct and is grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Independence:

  • The HR Technician is expected to work independently, take initiative, be proactive and be responsible for the quality of assigned worked.

Working Jointly with Other Staff on Common Assignments or Tasks:

  • This position involves working jointly with other staff on a daily basis.
