MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

MLTC Health & Social Development Department is seeking a dynamic, motivated individual to fill one (1) full-time, term position of Jordan’s Principle Coordinator. Term may be extended based on funding and program needs. The Jordan’s Principle Coordinator will work with families of children/youth with emphasis on aged 0 – 18 years who require support/special services with advocacy and inclusion in their communities that meets Jordan’s Principle criteria.

Duties (include but not limited to):

• Ability to work with and relate to children/youth who are developmentally delayed and with their families’, i.e., help family secure appointments, safe childcare, etc.
• Meet with the family to discuss the family’s child or youth needs/concerns, and identifies their needs or expectations of the program.
• Understanding of and respect for the cultural backgrounds of the families served and the ability to develop trusting relationships with all types of families.
• Navigate application process for families & manages.
• Support Jordan’s Principle community-based programs and activities as needed, i.e. cultural land based programs.
• Performs presentations to create awareness for Jordan’s Principle, regularly attends Health Fairs and similar events as directed by Supervisor or Manager
• Support families in person and via virtual means as they advocate for their child/youth’s needs
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum:
• Grade 12
• Relevant education and/or experience may be considered
• At least one year of experience working with children/youth and their families at home or in a school setting.
• Experienced in managing and facilitating focus groups and identifying gaps

Preferred:
• Business Administration Diploma, or Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Education, Health, Health Care Administration
• 3 – 5 years’ work experience in health administration and support.
• Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in computer software/database applications (i.e., Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and AIS Client Management System- training will be provided)
