Family Wellness Counsellor
MLTC Health & Social Development Department is seeking a dynamic motivated individual to fill the two (2) year full-time term position of Family Wellness Counsellor.
MLTC Health & Social Development in collaboration with Waskoosis Safe Shelter are instrumental in providing services to victims of domestic violence within the nine Meadow Lake First Nations communities it serves.
The Family Wellness Counsellor will provide mental health counselling and support services to victims of domestic violence and their children in an effort to meet its mandate in the area of education, prevention, and intervention in issues related to Family and Domestic Violence.
POSITIONS DUTIES (include but not limited to):
Providing holistic and comprehensive case management services to all clients
including: intake assessment, goal setting, case plan development, progress monitoring, advocacy and referrals.
Connecting families with needed and available community resources. Follow-up with clients and agencies as needed
Facilitating individual, family and group counselling
Facilitates presentations and workshops that support the programming.
Safety planning and danger assessments for clients
Provide support to clients regarding the justice system, CFS, and other legal issues
- Preparing and maintaining accurate client documentation and reports
Promoting safety, independence and healing for victims of domestic violence
Helping clients identify their strengths, enhance their skills and empower themselves for a future free of abuse.
Use cultural based intervention supports as require by clients.
Degree in Social Work or Counselling
Must be registered with one of the following organizations: Canadian Association of Social Work ( CAS);, Saskatchewan Association of Social Work (SASW), Canadian Council and Psycho Therapy Association (CCPA), Canadian Psychological Association (CPA); Canadian Council of Professional Certification (CCPC)
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the delivery of human services such as: Social Work, Counselling, Community Development, etc.
Experience in working with First Nations’ Schools & Communities and be familiar with and understand First Nations barriers/issues/culture
Ability to motivate others towards achieving goals
Strong decision making skills
Work independently as well as in a team setting
Possess the capacity to work with culturally-diverse individuals, families and communities; be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Proficient with computers, i.e., Microsoft Office 2010, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Ability to travel and possession of a valid driver’s license.
