Prevention/Support Worker

The English River First Nation’s Great River Health Centre is seeking one individual for the full time position of Prevention/Support Worker.  The Prevention/Support Worker implements specific strategies to solve problems affecting a child´s well-being within the family providing support to reduce the risk to the children.  Intensive in-home family support services are designed to strengthen families and eliminate or mitigate the sources of risk to children and its associated trauma. 


  • Maintains accountability by working with program guidelines, and observing and reporting changes in client conditions to the Health Nurse;
  • maintain client confidentiality;
  • Planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the delivery of Family Support Services to children and families who may be or are at risk of neglect and/or abuse;
  • provision of specialized home and community based support and prevention services to children and their families and the community at large; and
  • Completes and submits timesheets, kilometre reports, and other documentation as required.


  • Degree or professional certification in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or Family Counselling/Therapy with the requisite balance of training and experience


  • An Act respecting the Protection of Children and the Provision of Support Services to Families in Saskatchewan;
  • Awareness and understanding of and willingness to work and learn about Cree/Dene First Nations cultural values and protocols and incorporate into the child safety process; 
  • Proficient computer program knowledge such as Microsoft Excel and Word, email operating programs such as Microsoft Outlook;
  • Knowledge of family support services and delegated child protection services;
  • Knowledge of individual, family, child, adolescent and group behaviour; and
  • Knowledge/experience with family court proceedings
  • Ability to inspire and promote strength based parenting planning practices;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information;
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy;
  • Communicate effectively with orally and in writing with members, staff and staff of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council;
  • Confidentiality concerning financial and client records; and
  • Ability to speak the Dene/Cree languages would be an asset.
