MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10.   The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy.  As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

 

  • Preference will be given to qualified First Nations applicants or other Indigenous applicants who self-declare as being a First Nations person or of other Indigenous ancestry;

 

The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is now accepting applications for one (1) highly motivated individual to fill the full time, term position of the Residential School Wellness Worker. Term may be extended based on funding and program needs. The successful applicant will provide emotional support to residential school claimants and their families.

 

DUTIES (include but not limited to):

  • Be an active resource with all nine Meadow Lake First Nations and provide clarification, answer questions and assist with applications, i.e., Day Scholar, etc.
  • Plan & provide Healing and Wellness Workshops such as Grief and Loss sessions as needed or upon request, i.e., sharing circles, debriefing, etc.
  • Be skilled and knowledgeable in, and utilize the MLTC & MLFN community-based healing and wellness programs
  • Provide referrals to mental health therapists and other programs/resources to address client needs
  • Provide Trauma Informed Emotional & Cultural Support & services
  • Build skills and seek professional development that will support staff and community needs

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Minimum:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in community development, counseling, and facilitation.

 

Preferred:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Services, Social Work, Comm. Health & Wellness, or other relevant discipline.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in community development, counseling, and facilitation.

 

Other:

  • Be familiar with and understand First Nation barriers/issues/culture.
  • First Nation language, culture and traditional, & land-based practices obtained through years of traditional apprentice
  • Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and computer skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge in office procedures; ability to maintain accurate records/files and documentation; excellent communication, organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to speak Cree and/or Dene will be considered an asset.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, sometimes with last minute notification, and possession of a valid driver’s license.
